INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC SUSTAINABLE tRANSPORT SUPPORT

The Fuel Project, Supplier Guidance Report, came out in October 2022. It was written to provide film & television suppliers with the intel they need to make planet-saving choices when it comes to vehicles and mobile power units and marked a change in the industry, by looking directly at supply chain, skipping the industry ‘middle man’ of production-based carbon accounting. The report was the first stage in a long-term project, bringing together key stakeholders in the industry to support supply chain decarbonisation.

Our new report, The Shift, September 2024, represents Phase Two of our project. It explains the current landscape of industry supplier vehicle and MPU fleets, the carbon footprint they create, and sets the timeline, in line with a just transition, for achieving net zero.

Phase Three intends to be the implementation of the recommendations within The Shift.

THE LARGEST film & TV supplier decarbonisation RESEARCH PROJECT TO DATE sets a just transition scenario for SUPPLIER decarbonisation of transport and mpu fleets.

The Fuel Project has brought together film agencies, sustainability consultants, academia, suppliers, producers, broadcasters, streamers, major studios and more, to develop decarbonisation scenarios and timelines for the industry.

This study delivers on three key goals:

  • Reports the most reliable carbon footprint to date for all of London’s film & TV road transport and mobile power.

  • Includes just transition principles within decarbonisation scenarios for London based suppliers, including equitable deadlines for fossil fuel phase out.

  • Assesses the financial cost to the industry of the transition.

The Fuel Project has been co-authored by Creative Zero founder Roxy Erickson, Creative Zero’s transport & power specialist Alex Lewis-Jones, and Laurence Johnson at Film London.

PHASE I: the SUPPLIER GUIDANCE REPORT, 2022

The Fuel Project - Supplier Guidance Report is a Film London and Creative Zero collaboration with funding from GreenScreen Interreg.

WE WORK WITH CREATIVE INDUSTRY SUPPLIERS TO HELP THEM DECARBONISE THEIR FLEETS

PIXIPIXEL - decarbonising Fleets and generators

Pixipixel are a Film & TV equipment company - providing camera, lighting and grip.

They transport this kit all over the EU from facilities in London. We worked closely supporting them to achieve their goal of decarbonising their fleet of vehicles and generators. Pixipixel purchased an on-site tank to house HVO and made it their primary fuel replacing diesel consumption.

This enabled them to:

  • Cut 130 tonnes of GHGs by switching to HVO.

  • Reduce climate impact of overall fuel consumption by 87% between 2021 and 2022.

  • Save 131.2 tCO2e in total fuel consumption emissions.

transport & power services

Alexander Lewis-Jones has been working to embed sustainability into the major players of the transport and energy sectors. He has led strategic research on the adoption of climate solutions, largely with a focus on electric vehicles.

With his support, Creative Zero offers specific consulting services for these hard to decarbonise sectors, including:

  • Sustainable transport workshops and training

  • Electric vehicle and charging infrastructure guidance

  • Fleet transition strategy

  • Vehicle trial programmes

  • Carbon calculation and communication support
